ABOUT PATRICK

Patrick Shea is an artist based in Madison, Wisconsin.

The essence of his work is to celebrate the beauty of God’s creatures by observing and capturing how they relate to their environment. His father was a dairy farmer who subsequently, and naturally, served as a zookeeper at the Henry Vilas Zoo after moving his family to Madison. As a child, Patrick was inspired by his father’s care and devotion for animals. With his proximity to animals, both domestic and wild, Patrick cultivated a deep respect for the natural world. In his artwork, Patrick utilizes graphite and watercolor to capture the beauty of creation and is committed to painting from nature. He seeks inspiration in Wisconsin’s natural beauty and appreciates the conservation efforts of the UW Arboretum, the International Crane Foundation, and the

Aldo Leopold Foundation.

Patrick studied conservation and commercial art in the Fox Valley and recently retired from a career in orthotics and prosthetics. He currently works part time as a framer in a local art shop, a craft which allows him to elevate and compliment his own artwork as well as that of other artists in the community. He lives in Madison with his wife, Mary, and has four daughters.
